The working principle and characteristics of the fuel filter

First, the classification of fuel filters

There are three types of fuel filters: diesel filters, gasoline filters and natural gas filters. Its function is to filter out harmful particles and water in the engine fuel gas system to protect the oil pump nozzle, cylinder liner, piston ring, etc., reduce wear and avoid blockage.

The structure of the diesel filter is roughly the same as the oil filter, and there are two types: interchangeable and spin-on. However, the working pressure and oil temperature resistance requirements are much lower than those of oil filters, and its filtration efficiency requirements are much higher than that of oil filters. The filter element of the diesel filter mostly uses filter paper, and some use felt or polymer materials. In addition to filtering mechanical impurities in diesel, diesel filters also have an important function of water filtration. The presence of water is extremely harmful to the diesel engine fuel supply system, and rust, wear, seizure and even worsen the combustion process of diesel fuel. The water removal method of diesel filtration system is mainly precipitation. Either a sedimentation chamber is provided in the lower part of the filter, or a special precipitator is used. Whether it is the sedimentation cavity in the lower part of the filter or the special precipitator, there is a water discharge valve, and when the water accumulates to a certain amount, the valve is opened to release water.

Second, the working principle of the fuel filter

Generally, there are various impurities in the fuel, and the long-term use of the fuel tank will also precipitate a certain amount of dirt, which will affect the quality of the fuel. The function of the fuel compartment is to filter the above impurities, and the gasoline in the fuel tank reaches the combustion chamber of the engine through the filtration of the fuel grid, and its clean purity can be effectively guaranteed.

Third, fuel filter performance characteristics

If the filter is installed in the fuel line, it is called an external filter; Conversely, an internal filter is a filter installed inside the fuel pump and fuel tank. Among them, the fuel tank filter or its protective sleeve is generally considered a maintenance-free component.

Many imported cars have fuel filters with BanjoFITtings. In order to ensure the reliability of the connection seal, the same gasket must not be used repeatedly, and even if a new gasket is used, the tightening of the connection must be verified. When an “O” ring needs to be replaced in a fuel system, it is important to ensure that the “O” ring specification is accurate and to verify that the ring is elastic and hard.

The non-circuit fuel system has only one internal filter (inside the fuel tank), and although this all-in-one pump, filter, and delivery unit is expensive, proper maintenance and maintenance must be carried out in time when fuel delivery is blocked or engine performance deteriorates. All fuel lines are also checked for faults and cracks and crimping at hose clamps.

Fourth, the replacement cycle of the fuel filter

The recommended replacement intervals for fuel filters should vary according to their own structure, performance and use, etc., and cannot be generalized. Most car manufacturers recommend a replacement interval of 48,000 km for normal maintenance of their external filters; The recommended replacement cycle for conservative maintenance is 1.92~24,000km. If you’re not sure, look through the owner’s manual to find the correct recommended replacement cycle.

In addition, when the filter hose is aged or cracked caused by dirt such as mud and oil, the hose needs to be replaced in time.

Fifth, the maintenance of fuel filters

The fuel filter is a consumable, and it needs to be replaced and maintained regularly during the use of the vehicle, otherwise it will not play a qualified protective role. Specific replacement intervals can be found in the instructions on the product provided by the individual filter supplier.

Recommended replacement time: about 20,000 kilometers per car.

Sixth, replace the fuel filter use precautions

1. After the fuel filter and oil filter are replaced and installed, pay attention to the tightness of the interface and be vigilant against oil leakage;

2. For the air filter and air filter, ensure the overall tightness after replacement;

3. Take care of the fuel compartment and try to use the matching fuel specified by the automobile manufacturer.

The filter is marked with oil inlet and outlet arrows, do not install it backwards when replacing.
