What does air breather filter do?

Air breathers filter contaminants out of the atmosphere before they have a chance to get into your engine. If you’ve removed your vehicle’s factory airbox, you may need a breather filter (or two) before your vehicle will run correctly after installing an aftermarket intake kit.

What is a breather filter in a car?

Breather filters are small versions of the induction kits for the main air intake. They are designed to attach to the rocker cover on an engine via a ventilation tube. The airflow through the crankcase removes the gases which are formed as a by-product of the combustion process.

When should you replace a breather filter?

If you’re unsure about when to replace your car’s air filter, a basic rule of thumb is once every 12 months or 20,000 kilometres, or sooner if the vehicle is operated in dusty conditions. Replace the filter when it appears dirty or clogged; change the crankcase breather filter at the same time if it’s dirty.
